About Us

The forum was created to address the lack of a formal LGBT network – something which many other areas have. The interest to date shows how individuals and organisations value this development.

The aims of the forum focus on two key drives:

  1. To celebrate diversity at all levels in our community
  2. To break down the barriers faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans communities within North East Lincolnshire.

The forum has secured funding from the Equalities and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) to March 2009, and this has allowed us to plan a range of activity for the coming months:

  1. Hold forum meetings approximately every 6 weeks in order to provide updates and progress our agenda
  2. Arrange four celebratory / raising awareness events
  3. Provide relevant training opportunities for forum members (funded)
  4. Engage with a number of local employers, raising awareness of key issues and seek their involvement and support
  5. Establish a Youth Network to focus on LGBT issues
  6. Commission three research projects – to report and disseminate good practice, identify existing issues within the LGBT communities, research on LGBT forums in other locations

For further information or to find out how you can get involved in any of this activity, please read on or contact us directly!

The East Coast Centre for Diversity (representing The Grimsby Institute of Further & Higher Education) is responsible for ensuring delivery of the above outcomes. The Institute is passionate and very active with regards to all areas of equality and diversity. For more information on our projects and achievements please call the Institute Diversity Office.
